Answers to Common Questions About Therapy at Reset Psychotherapy

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it's natural to have questions before getting started. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about individual therapy, fees, insurance coverage and the services offered at Reset Psychotherapy.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you're struggling with anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, divorce or a major life transition, therapy can provide support, insight and guidance as you move forward. You don't need to be experiencing a crisis to benefit from therapy.

Will therapy help me?

Research consistently shows that psychotherapy can be highly effective for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges and life transitions.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and outcomes vary from person to person. The strongest predictor of success is often the therapeutic relationship itself. When clients feel safe, supported and able to engage openly in the process, meaningful change becomes possible.

What can I expect during a therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and determine whether we'll work well together. We'll review confidentiality, discuss my approach to therapy and talk about what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life.

You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your therapy goals. There is no pressure to have everything figured out before your first session—we'll work through that together.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on your goals, circumstances and the challenges you're facing.

Some clients attend therapy for a relatively short period to address a specific issue. In contrast, others choose longer-term support as they work through more complex concerns or personal growth goals.

Do you offer in-person therapy?

Yes. In-person therapy is available at my Toronto office near Bloor and Bathurst, if you prefer in-person sessions. It’s a convenient location for clients living near The Annex, Christie Pits and Little Italy.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. Virtual therapy is available to clients throughout Ontario through a secure online platform.

What is stress therapy?

Stress therapy helps individuals understand and manage the emotional, mental and physical effects of ongoing stress.

We'll identify sources of overwhelm, explore how stress affects your daily life and develop practical strategies to cope more effectively. The goal isn't to eliminate all stress—it's to help you respond to life's demands in healthier, more sustainable ways.

How does grief therapy work?

Grief therapy focuses on helping you understand and process your unique experience of loss. There is no "right" way to grieve, and there is no timeline for healing.

In therapy, you'll have the opportunity to explore your emotions, memories, and challenges while receiving support as you adjust to life after loss. The goal isn’t to "get over" grief, but to find a way to carry it while continuing to live a meaningful life.

What is relationship therapy?

Relationship therapy for individuals focuses on understanding the patterns, beliefs and experiences that influence how you connect with others.

You don’t need to attend therapy with a partner to work on relationship concerns. Individual therapy can help you navigate communication challenges, establish healthier boundaries, process relationship difficulties and gain insight into recurring patterns that may be affecting your relationships.

Does relationship therapy work?

Relationship therapy can be highly effective when clients are willing to explore their experiences honestly and engage in the therapeutic process.

Through greater self-awareness and understanding, many people discover new ways of relating to others, improve communication skills, strengthen boundaries and develop healthier relationship patterns. While change takes time, therapy can provide valuable insight and practical tools that support more fulfilling relationships.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions cost $150 (HST included) for 50 minutes. The cost is the same for online and in-person appointments.

A free 15-minute phone or video consultation is available to new clients.

Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy services. I encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine what coverage may be available to you.

Does OHIP cover therapy?

OHIP doesn’t currently cover psychotherapy services provided in private practice.

Do insurance benefit plans cover psychotherapy?

Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy services, though coverage amounts vary by provider and plan.

Clients are responsible for verifying their own coverage and eligibility for reimbursement. Receipts are provided after each session for insurance submission.

How and when do I pay for therapy sessions?

Fees are due either before or immediately following each session. Payment can be made by credit card or e-transfer.

Appointments cancelled with less than a 48-hour notice will be considered a missed appointment and are subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of the hourly rate unless the appointment can be rescheduled within the same week. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance are considered no-shows and will be charged the full session fee.
